"... Chiado is Bairro Alto's slightly more refined adjunct, with more conventional shopping and proper hotels. On the top of the Chiado Hotel, I meet another new friend, Paulo, for a drink just after dark. Although there is a criminal surfing of vermouth in my martini, my contentment is absolute.

Later, as we walk through one of Chiado's several small, elegant squares, I say how lovely Lisbon is ....... "

The best views of Lisbon

"The balcony of the Bar Meanwhile, in the Hotel do Chiado, it was once a well-kept secret. Nowadays it is more crowded, but it is still a good place for those who want to know how many times the Santa Justa elevator goes up and down in an hour. And see the Cathedral, the Tagus and the Castle. "

Hotel do Chiado is going to be "more Portuguese"

Providing the hotel with more comfort and modernity and, at the same time, making it more Portuguese and more Lisbon, is the purpose of the remodeling process already begun at Hotel do Chiado and expected to be completed early next year. A remodeling that takes place in a phased manner, without inconvenience to the guests, as assured to Turisver.com the general director, Célia Loureiro.
With 12 years of existence and currently operating as an independent unit, Hotel do Chiado, four stars in the heart of Lisbon, is undergoing a process of renovation that will change its image, since the oriental decoration will be replaced by a decoration of a more Portuguese and Lisbon spirit. The process, totally in charge of Ramos Catarino, has already begun, the reception is almost completed as well as the fourth model that is already being used. The differences lie mainly in the decoration and furniture, now very sober, and everything is being done in a phased way, and "without causing any kind of discomfort to the guests."
At the end of this month, on July 30, the areas to be intervened will be the restaurant, the bar and the panoramic terrace that will be extended to the lawn area, being "more trendy and relaxed" and " 6th of September ", bar and terrace will be completed. And if everything goes as planned, in early 2013 will be completed the remodeling of the entire hotel.
The public areas will follow the rooms, with the remodeling to be done by wings, and also here the concept "will be completely inspired by what is culturally Portuguese. We are in Chiado, in the heart of Lisbon and it does not make sense that we have an oriental concept, but rather that we speak of Chiado, its identity, its DNA ", explains Célia Loureiro, adding that" the purpose of this remodeling is essentially to do with the return of the soul to the Chiado, make it Portuguese. " In this sense, says the director-general of the unit, some work has already been done, namely regarding the amenities: "all have been changed for Portuguese brands".
